David Morris MP has been appointed Private Parliamentary Secretary to the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland James Brokenshire MP. This follows on from his appointment as PPS in Wales and in Scotland, and he is thought to be the first person in history to hold all three appointments.
Speaking after his appointment David Morris MP said:
‘I am delighted to be given this role at such an interesting time in Northern Irish politics. We now have the DUP as our partner’s in Government following the signing of a confidence and supply arrangement and we also have talks ongoing in Stormont to form the next power sharing Government in Northern Ireland. It is a truly exciting time to be involved in the Northern Ireland Office, not least because of the role Heysham plays in Northern Ireland’s imports and exports to the UK.
Another reason this appointment is so exciting is that I am the first person in history to be appointed as a Parliamentary Private Secretary to all 3 nations in the United Kingdom with a devolved Parliament. I moved from Wales and more recently Scotland to the Northern Ireland position. All of my appointments have tied in with huge constitutional periods in the Countries history and I am looking forward to getting started in the Northern Ireland Office.’
