Today (19th January) the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak MP , and the Secretary of State for Levelling Up Housing and Communities Michael Gove MP visited Morecambe following the announcement of £50 million pounds of funding for the Eden Project North in Morecambe.
The Prime Minister toured the Eden site, speaking with the Eden Team and representatives from Lancaster University, Lancaster City Council and Lancashire County Council. He also spoke with students from Lancaster and Morecambe College who were studying both Eden Land based courses and construction.
After the walkaround of the site the Prime Minister held a PM Connect event at the Platform in Morecambe where he spoke to a wide range of people from Morecambe about the funding announcement and his five priorities as Prime Minister: Halving inflation, Grow the Economy, Reduce Debt, cut waiting lists and stopping small boats.
Speaking During the visit Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said:
‘Congratulations David, we’re really excited. It’s a great day for the community, you’re going to do something really special here. It’s a pleasure for Michael [Gove] and I and the Government to back you. You have been a champion of this project as long as I have been an MP and apparently even longer than that! Michael’s done a great job working with you and this is a terrific day for you and your constituents’
Following the visit David Morris MP said:
‘I was delighted to welcome the Prime Minister and Michael Gove to Morecambe on such an historic day. After continually lobbying the Government over the past 10 years to make Eden a reality its personal vindication of years of hard work changing Morecambe for future generations. The 19th January is Morecambe’s new birthday and the opportunities that the Eden Project will bring will be a gamechanger for our town. It was great to show the Prime Minister around the site and let him meet both the young people who are already working towards Eden based qualifications and the teams who had worked so hard on the bid to get the project across the line.’
