Morecambe MP David Morris is ramping up his campaign to secure the regeneration of the former Frontierland site.
Developer Opus North and site owner Morrisons are working in partnership on a £17million plan to transform the derelict seafront site into a new retail and leisure park. Last week, David met the development team once again to get the latest on the plans.
David said:
“I am convinced that this plan to regenerate Frontierland is right for Morecambe. After 15 long years we finally have an exciting and viable scheme on the table. The proposals will boost local prosperity by creating 500 new jobs and drawing fresh spending into our town.
A new shopping and leisure park will fill this gaping hole in our seafront and forge a vital link between the West End and the Town Centre. Local businesses are telling me that they expect to benefit as a result, as more people will visit Morecambe, stay longer and spend more money.
I am working with local residents and businesses, as well as with the developer, to make the strongest possible case to Lancaster City Council for this important regeneration. The Council simply must not drop the ball on this one, it means too much to Morecambe.”
David has been closely engaged with the issue of regenerating Frontierland since being elected in 2010. Soon after becoming MP he held positive meetings with Morrisons to encourage them to bring forward plans for the site and has liaised with Opus North and the Council on the current application.
The planning application to regenerate Frontierland was lodged with Lancaster City Council in February 2014. Councillors will decide whether to give the plans the green light this autumn.
