On Tuesday 3rd December Secretary of State for International Trade Liz Truss visited the Seatruck Ferries offices at Heysham port to hear about the Port’s operations and plans for a Freeport at Heysham.
Speaking during the visit Liz Truss said:
‘It is fantastic to be her with David. One of our Key policies in our manifesto was Freeports. We want to create up to 10 Freeports across the Country. David has been making a fantastic case why Heysham should be a Freeport. There is an opportunity to create more jobs locally, to have more economic growth and to get more trade in this really important Port.’
Speaking after the visit Conservative candidate for Morecambe and Lunesdale David Morris said:
‘Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal gives Heysham Port an opportunity to grow. I have welcomed the introduction of Freeports and I want to make sure that Heysham is one of the 10 freeports created in the UK when we get Brexit done. It was important today to show the Secretary of State our Port, so that when we make our bid post Brexit she understands how important a freeport could be to our area.’
