Morecambe Town Council have voted to increase their parish council precept by 237%, the highest in the Country, seemingly in order to create a £1million pound reserve fund to purchase the Frontierland Site in Morecambe.
Frontierland was purchased for £3 million pounds in 2021 by Lancaster City Council and it is not for sale.
David Morris MP said:
‘It simply can’t be right that Council taxpayers in Morecambe are being asked for an extra 1 million pounds to fund purchase of land which the taxpayers already own, and which is not even for sale. This is double taxation and an astronomical increase must be one of the highest increases in the Country and is a Ludacris idea.
I have been inundated with correspondence from exacerbated constituents and I have written to the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Michael Gove MP to ask him to send in a taskforce to Morecambe Town Council to investigate this matter.’
