In response to the publication of the UK's first ever National Space Policy, David Morris MP, Chair of the Parliamentary Space Committee (An All-Party Parliamentary group) said,
"I welcome the publication of the National Space Policy which underlines the importance of the space sector to the UK economy and the importance of growing the number of skilled and high tech jobs in the UK in this sector. The policy also shows how the UK is already using its powerful space industry to bring benefits to all our constituents and keeps our industry at the cutting edge of a dynamic and vibrant global space economy.
"The success of the UK space sector in terms of strategic importance, national security, growth and innovation is widely acknowledged and now the National Space Policy commitment to four key principles and ambitions in the government’s use of space will further strengthen the UK's position.
"Last week history has been made with the launch of British ESA astronaut Tim Peake to the International Space Station and proves a timely reminder of the importance of space exploration, innovation and research to the UK.
"We should be proud of the success of the UK space sector but the opportunity to further explore, expand and flourish commercial space sector should be embraced."
Ends.
