Following EDF's announcement this morning David Morris MP has welcomed the news that both Heysham 1 and Heysham 2 will see an extension to their operation life. Speaking this morning David Morris MP said: Today's announcement is fantastic news for the whole economy in Morecambe and Lunesdale. This joint life extension of our Powerstations is something I have been campaigning for with the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change Amber Rudd MP.
Our power stations in Heysham are brilliantly maintained by the staff and I am pleased that the jobs at the site are secure for a further 5 years till 2024 on Heysham 1 and a further 7 years til 2030 on Heysham 2
I am still campaigning hard for the build on Heysham 3 to start as soon as possible and today's announcement goes some way to bridging the gap between the stations coming to the end of their lives and the new station opening. This will keep our skilled nuclear jobs in our area and help the wider supply chain for the nuclear industry locally.'
